My book Messing with the Cruise Control--A Personal History of Manic-Depression is an unprecedented field trip into bipolar disorder and the psychology of the illness, along with the behavior both related to and independent of it.

BIPOLAR DISORDER:

Book:

MESSING WITH THE THE CRUISE CONTROL

A Personal History of Manic-Depression

If you or someone you love or care about or must cope with is suffering from manic-depression (bipolar disorder), then please read on. I think I can help you as no book can . . .

I should be dead or in a psych ward or in jail. But instead I’ve written a nonfiction book called MESSING WITH THE THE CRUISE CONTROL—A PERSONAL HISTORY OF MANIC-DEPRESSION. .

It’s the story of my lifelong war with manic-depression.

Consider this: According to the National Institute of Mental Health, manic-depression (bipolar disorder) currently cripples at least six million people in the United States (the number of undiagnosed people in the U.S. isn’t known, and I’ve never seen a figure for manic-depression worldwide, although it’s probably in the tens of millions).

Whatever the exact number, we’re talking about a huge market for this book, especially when we factor in all the people manic-depressives interact with—all the family members, lovers, friends, employers, coworkers and strangers manic-depressives confuse, baffle, frustrate, anger, sadden, scare, threaten, terrify.

For these affected people I offer useful information and possibly some relief, maybe a few laughs. I think the jagged story of my highs, lows and mixed-states, and the psychosocial, legal and financial mess weaving through them, will do some good.

My story, moreover, may help some struggling manic-depressives find the right psychiatrist and the right medication. My story may help them enjoy what we would call a normal life, and in many cases, a creative, productive, loving life—enriching themselves and those who care about them.

I know other people have written about their fights with bipolar disorder. However, as the TV show once said, “There are eight million stories in The Naked City . . . .”

So please give me a chance. Please read my book. Please refer me.

Sincerely,

Eric Krueger
